Cadet Training

Throughout your training as an Army Cadet a lot of the things you do will be aimed at helping you achieve your next star level in the Army Proficiency Certificate (APC), a specially designed cadet syllabus. There is six levels of the APC all containing the same subjects, but each level you go up becomes slightly more in depth and advanced.

The ultimate course as a cadet is the Master Cadet Course. This is held at the Cadet Training Centre and is the highest level of the APC you can achieve.

When you complete a level of the APC you will be awarded a badge to show your achievement. These badges are shown below.

Skill At Arms
Skill At Arms teaches the cadets how to safely operate and use rifles they will shoot in the future in a controlled manner. The cadets must show they know how the weapon works and how to use it safely and efficiently before they will be able to fire it for real.

Map and Compass
Map and Compass shows the cadets how to navigate, whether it is from their house to the bus station or on Dartmoor. The cadets are taught how to use a map and compass together to make activities like the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Ten Tors an easier task.

Fieldcraft
Fieldcraft is a skill that allows a cadet to carry out a number of military activities whilst moving across country by day and night. The cadets learn how to camouflage themselves and how to survive in tactical situations.

First Aid
Cadets learn this very important skill so if they came across a casualty in the street they would know what to do. There will be opportunities to gain St John's Ambulance First Aid qualifications and take part in competitions up to national level.

Expedition Training
Cadets take part in Expeditions in their local areas and on Dartmoor as part of the APC. Cadets often go on to further these skills through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Ten Tors. Cadets have the opportunity to travel the world completing expeditions in locations such as Spain.

Physical Achievement
Physical Training is a very important part of the Army Cadets. We don't ask that you are super fit all we want is to see improvement in physical activities you take part in. There are also many sporting activities you can take part in from football to lacrosse, either representing your town or even the country!Poppy

There are many opportunities to shoot in the ACF, but all is conducted in a safe way.

Cadet and the Community
The Cadet and the Community subject allows the cadets to get out in their local areas and help others. Whether it is recruiting for the Army Cadets or cleaning ware heroes graves. The cadets also gain a vast amount of knowledge about their local areas including the emergency services.
