The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - More Information
What is the Duke of Edinburgh's Award?
The award is a challenging programme of activities which is a great accompaniment to your normal ACF training. In the ACF almost all the activities are the same as what is expected for the award. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is better known outside the cadet world by employers and the general public, and with your Cadet Star Training awards, it demonstrates your achievements in the ACF.
What does it involve?
There are three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold and for each, you complete activities in four sections. These are Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Expedition. At Gold level you also take part in a Residential Project. It's up to you what you do. In each section there is a wide range of options you can choose from. You can choose an activity you already take part in through the ACF or something entirely new.
Who is it for?
The Award is open to anyone between the age of 14 and 25 years, whether you're in the Army Cadets or not.
- To take part in the Bronze Award you have to be 14 years old or older.
- To take part in the Silver Award you have to be 15 years old or older.
- To take part in the Gold Award you have to be 16 years old or older.
"On successful completion, you will be presented with a badge and certificate and at Gold level you are invited to a Presentation Ceremony at one of the Royal Palaces."
